Singer, songwriter, politician, environmentalist and community activist John Hall is one of the founders of the group Orleans and a co-writer of their two huge hits that you still hear all the time – “Dance With Me” and “Still The One.”
He has written songs for Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Ricky Skaggs, Steve Wariner, and James Taylor, and he’s also played guitar on tours and records for Little Feat, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, and Seals and Crofts.
John took a break from music to enter politics, where he was elected to the legislature of Ulster County, NY, the Saugerties Board of Education, and finally to the U.S. House of Representatives representing the 19th congressional district of New York., where he served from 2007 to 2011.
He continues to play with Orleans as well as release solo material, including his latest album titled Reclaiming My Time.
During the interview, we spoke about some of the recording and mixing background of “Still The One,” why serving in political office is much harder than running, the difficulties of cutting an album during covid, and much more.
